Blatouch

There’s nothing like hanging out with an old friend. That’s the vibe I got when visiting Blatouch, a Vinohrady café that used to be a regular hangout. It was a refreshing change from the look and feel of the newer cafes I’ve been visiting recently.

Whoa. Not one but two smiling staff members greeted me when I walked in. The large space is divided in two with the back room being non-smoking. The front room though has a bit more atmosphere. Dark reddish brown wood furnishings, including benches and bookshelves give it an old-fashioned yet comfortable look. There’s a food menu, especially popular at lunch, and Blatouch has a decent evening vibe with mixed drinks etc. In the summer, tables are squished on to the sidewalk.

Now the coffee. Mmmm…not the best. It was a fine size but nothing special and at 54 CZK I would have expected a bit more. It was well-made enough but a better brand of coffee is definitely needed. Blatouch has the look and feel of a local. A relaxing, unpretentious place where you can be yourself. Just like with good old friends.
